Letter from the Mayor

Dear Neighbor, On behalf of the Forsyth City Council and myself I would like to commend you for your generosity and support of those evacuees taking shelter in Forsyth during Hurricane Matthew.  Forsyth showed that we are a community that cares. We are a community that helps our neighbors when they are in need. Not just the neighbors we know, but the neighbors we have never met. Not just the neighbors next door, or across town, but across the state and the southeast. We appreciate all the churches, groups and individuals who offered their help and support. We also want to acknowledge the outstanding work of City Manager Janice Hall and the dedicated City staff, the City Police and Fire Departments, and the Convention and Visitors Bureau. Together with some volunteers from Leadership Monroe, we put together over 1,200 welcome bags for evacuees. The welcome bags were distributed through the hotels, from police cruisers and fire trucks, and the Welcome Center. Many of our local restaurants offered specials for our visitors. The Monroe County Library offered free special children’s movie showings on Saturday to keep families entertained.   Again, we are proud of the Forsyth and Monroe County community as we worked together during an especially difficult time. Thank you! I am proud to call you my neighbors!   Best regards,   Eric S. Wilson...
