Appointed Boards DESIGN
REVIEW BOARD
The Design Review Board is a five member body which reviews and
approves building designs, landscaping, and site plans to ensure an
aesthetic design and compliance with the City’s codes. Design review
shall apply to all development, except for single-family detached
dwellings within the city limits of the City of Forsyth, within the
jurisdiction of the Design Review Board. The members are appointed
to three year staggered terms by the Mayor and confirmed by the City
Council. At least one member of the Board shall be an architect or
landscape architect with current state registration, or a licensed
commercial building contractor. One member shall be selected from
the Planning Commission and one member selected from the Historic
Preservation Commission. The Design Review Board meets the 1st
Wednesday of each Month at 9:00 A.M.
HELPFUL INFORMATION:
All applicants for design review and approval are strongly
encouraged but are not required to schedule a pre-application
conference with the Zoning Officer. A pre-application
conference is a time when applicants can familiarize themselves with
the application requirements and processes and gain preliminary
input from staff as to the suitability of the proposed material
change in appearance.
All applications for design review approval should contain the
following information:

samples

HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION (HPC)
The HPC is a five member body established to create a uniform
procedure for use in providing for the protection and enhancement of
local historic properties as well as developing and conducting
educational programs on historic properties that will increase the
community’s awareness and understanding of historic preservation.
The members of the commission are appointed by the Mayor and City
Council to staggered three year terms. PLANNING
AND ZONING COMMISSION The Planning and Zoning
Commission is a body of five members which ensure the future quality
of life of the City of Forsyth by dealing with all matters involving
property rezoning, conditional use, variances, and conditional
approval and disapproval of preliminary plats of major subdivisions.
After holding a hearing, recommendations are made to the Mayor and
City Council for further review. The Planning and Zoning Commission
is appointed by Mayor and City Council which serve three year
staggered terms. The commission meets the 4th Monday of each month
at 5:00 PM at City Hall Annex.
