EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES WITH THE CITY OF FORSYTH
 

The City of Forsyth, Georgia is seeking to hire a qualified City Manager. The City of Forsyth is located in the center of Georgia, and covers an area of 25 square miles with a workforce of 100 employees.  The City Manager will report to the Mayor and 6 member City Council, which is elected to staggered four-year terms.   

The City Manager's Office provides centralized direction and leadership for the effective administration and operations of all municipal services for the City as directed by the Mayor and City Council, and serves as the focal point for the management of the City services departments.  The City Manager's Office prepares and submits to the City Council a balanced plan of municipal services in adherence with the policy goals and objectives established by the City Council while employing such managerial techniques as needed to assure efficient and effective utilization of the City's resources.  The City of Forsyth provides Electrical, Water, Sewer and Cable services to it’s subscribers. 

Responsibilities:  Responsibilities include preparing the annual budget, providing leadership and direction in the development of short and long range plans, advising the Mayor and Council of financial conditions and current and future needs of the City, and monitoring and ensuring compliance with state/federal regulations.  Government accounting and financial experience is a major component for the successful applicant.   

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Comprehensive knowledge of government administration principals. Comprehensive knowledge of the function and interrelationship of all City departments.  Thorough knowledge of public management techniques.  Skill in presenting ideas in a clear, concise and effective manner.  Ability to represent the City in a positive and progressive manner.  Ability to prepare, analyze, and interpret data and reports.  Ability to plan and organize the work of others.  Ability to take the initiative and perform independently when necessary.  Knowledge of electric utility, water and sewer operations.  Knowledge of City codes, ordinances, resolutions, policies, and guidelines regarding City organization and operations.  Knowledge of principles and practices of municipal government budget preparation and administration. Skill in planning, organizing, staffing, and directing the efficient and effective delivery of City services, programs and function through subordinate staff.  Skill in providing responsive advice and staff support to the Mayor and Council. Ability to establish priorities and direct the allocation of City resources.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, City officials and the public.  

Qualifications:  Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree, Masters preferred, in Public Administration or related field, plus 3 + years of experience in governmental management. The ideal candidate will possess leadership abilities, communication skills, technology competence, experience in budget preparation, oversight of City finances and have first-hand successful experience in planning, zoning administration and personnel management.  

Salary: Based on experience and qualifications.
